I had a quick glance at source. Base64 and TCP? There's certainly room for a quicker protocol and delta streaming with adaptive bitrate. I reckon Fable could get that implemented quite fast.

I don't understand: why would anyone strap their phone to their face? What problem does this solve?
As the readme says,

Even a cheap dedicated VR headset is hundreds of dollars. Cardboard is cheap.

This was originally implemented wayyy before AI got good; I just never bothered to package it for HN until today.
Also, it was an excuse to learn Unity :P
A faster streaming protocol is definitely up next though
